A sense of normality.!

I hope you are all keeping well during this second lockdown.

Alongside my private work, I am keeping busy with my time working at Oxford United FC where I am still able to treat the players as part of the medical team made up of dedicated and talented professionals; Amy Cranston (1st team physio), Spike (Soft Tissue Therapist) & Nathan Benjamin Smith (Sports Therapist).

It's so vital to maintain a routine as close to normality as possible, even if there are some restrictions.  Fingers crossed that change is just around the corner.

London marathon pace setter Shadrack Korir (no. 9 alongside Sir Mo Farah) helps me to support Kiboi Primary School, Kenya.

Shadrack with the holdall containing football kit he is taking home for the pupils of Kiboi Primary School.

I'm so grateful to London Marathon pace setter Shadrack Korir for agreeing to take a holdall full of football kit back to Kenya with him for the pupils of Kiboi Primary School.

I have been personally supporting this school since 2012 by providing sports equipment and clothing for the children, and I partner with Kenyan athlete's competing in England who take the donations back with them.

Shadrack ran alongside Sir Mo Farah pace setting for the elite British athletes during the London marathon and I met him at his hotel in Windsor 2 days before the race to hand him the holdall.

This support for the school children can not be continued without the generosity of the Kenyan athlete's including Jonah Chesum & Shadrack Korir agreeing to take the equipment home with them and I am so grateful to them.

You ran a marathon yesterday, now what?

After such a fantastic effort yesterday, whether you finished the 26.2 miles or not - congratulations on setting out on such a challenge and the hard work is over and now is the time to reward your body.

First take care of any injuries you may have picked up, including blisters (Compeed is great for these) and if you are a victim of the nasty jogger's nipple soreness then icing helps, or if it is broken skin then nappy rash cream or antibiotic cream is the way to go!

Any minor muscle pain/cramping will be expected to reduce within the next 3 - 5 days with some very gentle stretching and movement and also by applying ice 2 - 3 times a day, but of course if you are concerned then a trip to a medical professional is always a good idea.  If you don't know of any then always ask friends and go by their recommendations - be it Physio, Chiro, Osteo or soft tissue therapy - it's all good stuff!

Finally, sleep and eat as much as possible for the next couple of days - and good luck in mastering the art of walking backwards every time you go downstairs!

Congratulations to all who ran their own London Marathon at the weekend!

Since 2013 I have managed the NSPCC Sports Massage Therapy team of over 30 therapists treating over 400 NSPCC fundraising runners at the NSPCC post marathon reception.

This is always a highlight of my year, and this charity is very close to me as I ran 3 marathons for ChildLine (London, Edinburgh & Abingdon) from 2001 to 2005.

Fingers crossed that next year we all return to some degree of normality which will see everyone enjoying athletic events together.

Business as normal with Oxford United FC.

It's great to be back working with the medical team at Oxford United supporting the first team players.

There are a lot of changes respecting the current environment and safety is paramount, but I am so pleased to be able to return to work with the club.

We just need the fans back as soon as possible, as sitting in an almost empty stadium during matches just ain't the same!

Covid-19 Clinic Update

The Gov is still not giving permission for Soft Tissue Therapy/Sports Massage clinics to reopen due to the close proximity of the treatment and the time spent providing it.
Therefore, I am still unable to treat anyone at this time, and hopefully this will only be for another 2 weeks or so as I am hoping that the Gov will announce that we can reopen during their 04th July address.
I am very sorry that I am currently unable to provide hands on treatment, as I value our relationship and I feel very downhearted knowing that I can’t assist you directly, but I am still providing my free support via emails, text or a good old fashioned telephone call, so please don’t hesitate to contact me if you feel that I can be of help with advice or providing video mobility exercises etc.
Please accept my apologies, but it is out of my hands and I am not even able to work at Oxford United during our promotion chasing games coming up (starting this Friday) due to the restrictions placed by the Gov on soft tissue management, so I will be at home cheering them on – which will be strange for me!
Please take care and I will post a notification when I have a date confirmed for reopening.
Regards Chris
