With a swimming and rowing background, Roberta was no stranger to
early-morning training or physical contests. Keen on a new challenge,
she entered her first triathlon in the summer of 2006 and was pleasantly surprised
to finish 9th overall at the London Triathlon. She realised her potential, and
decided to take the sport to the top level.
In 2007 Roberta made it her aim to qualify for the Great Britain Triathlon team.
Juggling a medical career and a minimum of 10 hours training a week was no easy
feat, but somehow she managed it. She proudly wore her GB kit at Lorient, France,
for the World Long Distance Triathlon Championships, where she finished 9th
overall, and was the 2nd British woman to cross the line.
She represented GB once again at the World Olympic Distance World
Championships in Hamburg, Germany, where she finished in the top 50%.
Roberta will be travelling to Vancouver in June of this year for the Olympic distance
world champs, where she will be aiming to finish in the top 10% of the field. Her
main aim for the year, however, is to better her long distance result from last year,
and get a medal in Almere, Holland, on August 30th, at the Long Distance World
Champs. We wish her every success!
Roberta is keen to increase the profile of any local businesses by displaying
their logo on her GB kit as well as her wetsuit and race bike in return for
sponsorship. If you are interested in this please contact her directly at
rdionello@gmail.com.
